Ascendancy Research
Tracing one individual or several, generation by generation, back as far as the records go.
A record you cannot read is only half a discovery. I translate documents and letters from Italian and from Latin — the records I find during research, and the papers already in your family’s possession.
Older church records, and many notarial documents, are written in Latin, often in abbreviated forms and hands that take training to read. My classical education included Latin and Ancient Greek, and during my studies at Ca’ Foscari University I carried out a research project on original fourteenth-century documents — the same kind of palaeographic work that genealogical sources demand.
Letters between emigrants and the family who stayed in Italy are among the most moving documents a family can own. If you have such papers, I am glad to translate them so their content is no longer locked away.
Tracing one individual or several, generation by generation, back as far as the records go.
Tracing all the descendants of a given ancestor or generation, forward through time.
Copies of original birth (baptism), marriage and death records from civil and church registers.
Send me what you already know about your Italian ancestors — names, towns, approximate dates — and describe what you hope to discover. I will reply with my opinion and an estimate for your project.
